WHATEVER you do, don’t tell Eddie The Eagle.
He’ll be devastated that Jaguar have just broken the world record for towing a skier at 117mph.
Eddie would have loved a bash at that.
Instead, it was former Olympic hero Graham Bell who agreed to be whizzed along, towed by a new XF Sportbrake.
Now the Sportbrake was designed for trips to B&Q and the local tip for those Tom and Barbara in The Good Life types.
All tweed caps, gloves and cucumber sandwiches.
But those luvvies in the Jaguar Land Rover marketing department guzzle far too much espresso.
Their recent publicity stunts include Daniel Craig in a Range Rover Sport in New York, an F-Pace loop-the-loop and an E-Pace barrel roll earlier this year.
So a skier at 117mph seems a bit tame.
However, I can’t wait to try taking my kids to school in this way as Glasgow rolls into winter. I’m sure they’ll love it.
In all seriousness, Jag beat the old fast skier record by a whopping 47mph.
It was completed at JLR’s Arctic test centre in Arjeplog, Sweden where temperatures were as low as -28C.
Jeremy Hicks, Jaguar Land Rover UK MD, said: “The XF Sportbrake’s superb traction, handling and high speed stability made it the perfect choice for this speed record attempt. We’re extremely proud to have supported Graham in this incredible world-beating achievement – it’s this kind of trail-blazing activity that really tests our cars to their limits.”
Surely a ski jump is next in an Evoque…
Anyone got Eddie’s number?
