Audi didn’t seem to hold back when it came to the S8 plus as they have crammed it with literally the best of both worlds, performance and luxury.
The S8 plus is not just some gimmick with a few new features here and there, it is in fact an insane evolution over the current S8. The S8 on sale now produces a very nice 512hp which is a great amount from its 4.0L V8 TFSI engine but the Audi engineers have ramped up the power on the S8 plus to get 596hp and 516lb-ft of torque out of the engine. On top of that there is an overboost function that takes the torque up to 553 lb-ft of torque, the most torque in the entire Audi range.
So that’s around the same amount of power as the Ferrari 458 Speciale and about 10-40 lb-ft of torque less than the Ferrari 488 GTB. That is some pretty good company for the S8 plus’ performance figures.
On the topic of performance figures, 0-62mph is completed in 3.8s and if you choose the optional dynamic package that de-restricts the car’s top speed, you’ll top out at 189mph.
This is no Ferrari beater though, the S8 plus is brimmed with premium luxury and equipment throughout.
The Audi Matrix LED headlights come as standard and they are coupled with the sweeping dynamic turn signals at both the front and rear. The technology in the headlights uses mapping data from the navigation system as well as sensors to individually dim or illuminate the 25 small, individual LEDs as needed. From then on they cleverly project an extremely broad spectrum of light without causing glare to oncoming traffic.
Inside the S8 plus you get the S sports comfort sport seats with 22-way adjustability and a memory function. I don’t even know 22 ways to setup a seat but that just goes to show how much luxury and tech is in this car.
Like the current S8, the new plus model is built exclusively on the standard wheelbase but even still you get great space and the plus offers all the standard features of the S8’s already long feature list plus more. As well as the power-operated hands-free boot lid, advanced key, 14 speaker Bose surround system and advanced parking system with top view camera, the S8 plus gets privacy glass, power door closure and adaptive cruise control with Audi’s ‘pre-sense’ technology.
Carbon fibre is also used in the side air inlets and the blade on the front apron. The rear diffuser, front grille, air inlets, mirror housings and window trims form part of the black styling package. The exclusive S8 plus design characteristics on the exterior include darkened tail lights and a rear lip spoiler in body colour. As an option, the mirror housings and rear spoiler can also be specced in carbon fibre, just be wary of the price when ticking options.
On the topic of price, the Audi S8 plus will be available to order from October, priced from £97,700 OTR with the first UK deliveries expected in January 2016.
