This probably isn’t the most exciting bit of news you’ll see today, but it matters to more people than you might realise.
The Kia Sportage has built a solid reputation as one of the better rivals to the Nissan Qashqai and sells well, helped by its seven-year warranty. This is the new, fourth-generation version, which will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The styling hasn’t changed drastically – a nip here, a tuck there. It’s certainly less angular than its predecessor; about the biggest change is that the headlights have migrated above the grille. The proportions have been pulled around a bit and the wheelbase is longer for more interior space, as well.
Kia says the Sportage’s styling is “a bold, progressive design, with the vehicle’s designers creating a sense of power and agility from every angle.” The usual design speak, then. Whatever, it looks good.
More information will be forthcoming at Frankfurt. Fair bet, though, that the Sportage will be available with the usual array of fuel-sipping petrol and diesel engines and optional four-wheel-drive. Kias are usually well equipped, so there should be plenty to keep gadget fans happy.
All in all, the new Sportage should keep the Qashqai looking over its shoulder.
