New Mercedes SL leaks ahead of debut

Last week Mercedes-Benz recently teased the refreshed face for the SL-Class and now this week a new full gallery of the Mercedes SL has now leaked online ahead of its planned debut at the upcoming LA Auto Show.

Being a leak there are no actual details on the new Mercedes SL yet but from what we can see the new SL features a completely new front end with elements from the Mercedes AMG GT.

These elements include narrower more arched headlights with the usual LED tech involved. The bonnet and front bumper have been resculpted and there is now an additional opening underneath the grille and the lower air intake.

The front is a refreshing look to the Mercedes SL as the previous gen was widely criticised for its less than handsome design.

Back at the rear of the new Mercedes SL are new(ish) rear lights that still resemble those of previous SL generations and the rear bumper now features small vents at the rear just behind the wheels.

Inside the new Mercedes SL we can see there is a new steering wheel and infotainment system for the new SL as well as a number of interior improvements.

The updated design is much needed for the SL with the last generation being wildly underwhelming. While the front of the new car is a fresh take, the rear of the car still incorporates elements of the previous generation and sports a similar look. This isn’t a bad thing but with the new C-Class Coupe and S-Class Coupe sporting rather handsome looks, it is a shame the SL hasn’t completely followed the new design language.

Technical details about the refreshed Mercedes are still unknown. Reports from German publication Auto Motor und Sport has mentioned that nine-speed automatics, Dynamic Select and Active Body Control will appear on some SL models.

AMG models will also receive upgraded brakes and engine adjustments.

That is everything for now on the Mercedes SL but with the LA Auto Show opening it’s doors tomorrow it will only be a short time until more details are uncovered.
