DO you know there is a list of the 50 most beautiful words in the English language?
Aquiver (quivering, trembling) is top, followed by mellifluous (a sweet sound) and then ineffable (too great to be expressed in words).
All three could be used to describe this new BMW 8 Series.
Sometimes a piece of metal comes along and smacks you in the eyes, like Tom hitting Jerry with a frying pan in a cartoon.
All it takes is just once fleeting glance and your a smitten. Forever.
It was revealed at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy – the same location Aston Martin first showed the Vanquish Zagato Concept at 12 months ago.
Now Beemer have confirmed it’s coming for real.
Just look at it.
A front end resembling Jaws, mouth gaping wide, ready to chomp Tarmac by the mile.
Curves, bulges, crisp lines and a silhouette to make Kim Kardashian look positively dull.
When it does arrive, it will be the first time an ‘8’ model is in the range since the turn of the century.
And the new 8 Series should look very similar to this concept. Think of it as a more comfortable version of the i8 supercar with room for two in the back, a decent-size boot and a range of petrol, diesel and hybrid engines.
Being a concept, there’s no talk of price just yet, but if it is to go head-to-head with the equivalent Mercedes S coupe expect to pay £100,000 for the least expensive model and close to £200,000 for a likely M8 version.
BMW said it will make a Gran Coupe four-door version and a convertible variant of the 8 Series, too, but for now the two-door coupe is what we’ve been given a first glimpse of – and it doesn’t disappoint.
In an official release announcing the preview vehicle, chairman of the Board of Management at BMW AG, Harald Krüger, said the new model would strengthen the brand’s position in the executive market.
He said: “The number 8 has always represented the pinnacle of sports performance and exclusivity at BMW.
“The forthcoming BMW 8 Series coupe will demonstrate that razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury can go hand-in-hand.
“This will be the next model in the expansion of our luxury-car offering and will raise the benchmark for coupes in the segment. In the process, we will strengthen our claim to leadership in the luxury class.”
I’m all of aquiver.
