What’s a Mercedes S63 AMG Edition 130 then?
The world’s oldest car manufacturer turns 130 in 2016 and the S63 AMG Edition 130 is the extravagant start to the celebrations.
What do I need to know?
Just 130 cars will be available worldwide, all of them cabriolets. Few cars are as extravagantly self-indulgent, but Mercedes has cranked up the luxe-ometer a fair few notches.
The Edition 130 comes in a unique-to-model shade of ‘alubeam silver’ with a red soft top and rides on matt black 20in wheels. Inside, there’s bright red or grey nappa leather upholstery with carbonfibre or piano black trim.
A multitude of Edition 130 badges are dotted about the place, while each one comes with a fitted car cover and a presentation key box and key ring. Trifling things, you’re probably thinking, but at this end of the market it’s those kind of touches that prompt someone to hand over a not-inconsiderable amount of money.
The engines remains as it is in the standard S63 AMG Cabriolet, a 5.5-litre, twin-turbo V8 producing 577bhp and 663lb/ft of torque. 0-62mph takes 3.9secs and top speed is limited to 155mph.
How much will it cost?
Mercedes has only released German pricing so far, the tag set at €226,457 (£170,363).
When can I buy one?
April theoretically, but all 130 cars are probably accounted for already.
