SERIOUSLY, Vauxhall, just stop it.
Once upon a time new model from those Griffin-badged folk fairly registered a changing in breathing.
Now every car they release provokes rocketing Richter Scales.
OK, so I may over-exaggerate a little.
But, to borrow something from Mr Kipling, they now make exceedingly good cars.
Even this repmobile Insignia has a real edge of sexy.
This is the new Insignia GSI – an all-wheel drive, Brembo-braked sports saloon with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine making 256bhp.
These models are built for motorway mile munching as king of the company cars.
But every employee will get a bigger kick from this GSI. It’s not VXR territory by 62mph will be reached just over five seconds and up to around 150mph.
The boffins in the engineering department have even been allowed to inject some sportiness into the chassis and it sits 10mm lower than the regular flavoured saloon.
Just for extra excitement there’s even an additional drive mode called “Competition” which puts everything into maximum attack mode. Vauxhall promises a double-tap of the ESP button switches off the traction control which they say gives “skilled drivers the chance to excel when on the track”.
On the outside a bodykit gives “required levels of downforce”, and inside you get sports seats, a special steering wheel and aluminium pedals. The wheels are 18in and covered with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres.
The GSI will be officially unveiled in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
It’s official – Vaux now rocks.
